Celebration

In 2023, Laurier Archives and Special Collections celebrated the 15th anniversary of the acquisition of their 15th century Noted Hymnal. Since its acquisition, the hymnal has proved beneficial to students and faculty in both music and medieval studies programs, as well as advancing the medieval manuscript collection held by Laurier Archives and Special Collections.

To celebrate the acquisition, the Medieval and Medievalism Studies program presented their 19th Annual Distinguished Visiting Speaker in Medieval and Medievalism Studies on the Noted Hymnal. This event was supported by the Dean of Arts, Dean of Music, and the Laurier Library.

The event was held on Friday, October 27, 2023, from 3:00-5:00pm in the Robert Langen Art Gallery. The hymnal was on display at the event where a lecture was given by Alma Santosuosso, a musicologist, and Professor Emerita from Laurier’s Faculty of Music. The lecture was titled “Revelations from the Laurier Hymnal”. Dan Cabena, an alumnus of Laurier's Faculty of Music, performed several hymns from the manuscript.
